DNF.
A 1980s cyberpunk story about Cowboy, who is “hardwired” into various computer systems and hardware via sockets in his skull, as he fights against some sort of enemies called the Orbitals. I’m not entirely sure, as the writing seemed awful. It jumped all over the place, dropping bits of plot here and there, tossing in 2-dimensional characters, and reveling in technology (as opposed to plot, character development, or anything else). I gave up about 20% of the way in.
Maybe 1980s cyberpunk Sci-Fi just isn’t for me. I at least managed to finish Nueromancer, but I didn’t think that story aged particularly well. Hardwired seems even worse. Perhaps when it came out, it was something new and revolutionary, but reading the book nearly 40 years later, the ideas feel dated and clichéd, and with no character development, a confusing plot, and crappy writing, there are no other redeeming values.
