'Super Powereds: Year 4' by Drew Hayes
'Super Powereds: Year 4' by Drew Hayes

A satisfying conclusion to the series.

The good

  • The fantastic characters from the previous books are all back! And when the book ended, I found myself missing them.
  • Introduces several interesting new characters, and reveals a bunch of original new powers.
  • Wraps up all the key plot elements.
  • Includes several epic final tests and battles.
  • Continues the strong themes around heroism, doing the right thing, friendship, loyalty, and so on.

The not so good

  • This is a very, very long book.
  • Some of the big mysteries are revealed by, effectively, an “explainer” character. This doesn’t feel as natural as having the characters discover those things by themselves, as part of the plot. That said, given the book was already crazy long, perhaps this was more efficient.
