'Super Powereds: Year 1' by Drew Hayes
'Super Powereds: Year 1' by Drew Hayes

The good

  • A fun premise: a university that trains people with superpowers to be heroes. It’s like a mix between the Harry Potter and Marvel universes.
  • Great characters.
  • Some unique, creative superpowers.
  • Fun action scenes.
  • A big underlying mystery driving the plot forward.

The not so good

  • The story focuses on a lot of aspects of college that just aren’t that interesting at my age: e.g., college dorms, college parties, college dating, etc.
  • The bad guys aren’t too interesting.
  • The book felt like the more kid-friendly version of The Villains’ Code Series, which I had read before this one. Both are enjoyable, but The Villains’ Code felt a bit more serious, gritty, and dark.

Overall

Well-worth reading. I’m excited to read the next book in this series, which is perhaps the best compliment I can give.
