The good

  • Fun premise: the Greek gods are real, and are with us in the modern world. Every 100 years, they hold a competition called the crucible where each of the major gods is represented by a human champion, who competes on their behalf in 12 labors. The winning champion’s god becomes the ruler of the gods for the next 100 years.

  • Fun characters, including humans, gods, demigods, monsters, and so on.

  • The 12 labors are creative and perverse. It reminds me of Squid Games (in a good way).

The not so good

  • Some of the content, especially the protagonist’s various crushes, feels like a young adult book (not in a good way).

  • There is a long, drawn-out sex scene that is, let’s just say, detailed and explicit. I don’t mind, but it felt really out of place, especially amidst the young adult content.
