3.5 stars. Feels like a British version of the Harry Dresden books.
The good
-
An interesting world that mixes modern day police and detective work with wizards, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and other magical things.
-
Occasionally amusing, dry, British humor, especially as the protagonist discovers this bizarre world of magic—and then proceeds to just take it all in stride.
The not so good
-
The plot is quite convoluted.
-
The magic is largely undefined and unrestrained, which I rarely find fun (too much deus ex machina ).
