The good
-
Good world building. This book takes place on a planet where the sunlight is so hot it destroys everything it touches, so the inhabitants are all nomads who live their entire lives on the move.
-
Good action. Brandon Sanderson is a master of clear, exciting, fast-moving battles.
-
Decent magic system. It has limits, both in what you can do, and how much you can do it (resources), which forces the characters to be very creative in how they use their magic.
-
A few fun characters.
-
Reasonably satisfying ending.
The not so good
-
The main character is from the Stormlight Archive series, so you need to have read that, and remembered it, and understood it, to get the full value out of this book.
-
The magic system is good, but not great. It’s not nearly as fun as the one in Mistborn.
-
The main villain is pretty flat. Just a 2d trope of a bad guy out to do bad guy stuff.
