The story seems to meander randomly: it’s not clear why Maigret is following Pietr the Latvian in the first place; it’s not clear why there are so many lookalikes of Pietr (including a 7 year old girl who is “the spitting image of Pietr”??); it’s not clear why Maigret is looking for certain people or what leads he’s following; and so on. In short, I found myself having read ~25% of the book, with only a vague notion of what was going on, and no real desire to put in the effort to find out.
