'The Frugal Wizard‚ A Handbook for Surviving Medieval England' by Brandon Sanderson
'The Frugal Wizard‚ A Handbook for Surviving Medieval England' by Brandon Sanderson

The good

  • The premise of multi-dimensional travel is great. The corporate speak around it is mildly amusing too.

  • The mix of futuristic technology in a medieval setting is fun.

The not so good

  • While the premise is great, the book doesn’t make good use of it. Why bother with multiple dimensions if the entire story is confined to just one?

  • I didn’t find myself caring that much about the characters in this one. I’m not sure why, as Sanderson is usually pretty good about creating believable, empathetic characters. Perhaps it’s because the protagonist was a little too self-aware in his journey to remember his identity.

  • The plot is a bit all over the place and not particularly sticky. Just a few weeks later, I was trying to tell a friend about this book, and had a lot of trouble remembering what happened.
