I was a big fan of a couple other books by Cormac McCarthy (The Road and No Country for Old Men), but this one did not work for me, at all. The beginning jumped all over the place and was so confusing and disjointed, I almost quit the book there; then, it starts to actually follow a coherent plot, but it’s dark and twisted and gross. It just gets darker and darker, with one vile act after another, and there seems to be no redeeming value: no good guys, no humor, no mystery, nothing. Not sure what I was supposed to get out of this book, but I didn’t get it.
