The good

  • An interesting tale of a woman, Monza Murcatto, seeking vengeance, with fun discussions of the value of revenge and some good plot twists.

  • Interesting, deep, unpredictable characters, as in this entire book series. Monza is an interesting character herself, and to help her get her vengeance, she gathers a motley crew together that includes a tough warrior from the north, a master poisoner (he’s a really fun & twisted character!), an alcoholic mercenary (Nicomo Cosca returns; he’s always good for a laugh!), an information broker (Vitari is back), and an ex-convict (who is obsessed with math). They are a very entertaining group.

  • Monza is seeking vengeance on 7 people, one at a time, so it’s a bit like 7 stories of clever ways to assassinate people, with lots of action and political intrigue along the way.

The not so good

  • Most of the characters from the first 3 books in the series do not make an appearance in this book. They are mentioned by name, but that’s about it. That’s a shame, as those were some fun characters.
