Peter Clines has a gift for stories that suck you into an intriguing mystery and are almost impossible to put down… Until the mystery is revealed and he mostly seems to be just wrapping the story up with a happy ending.
Just like the first book in this series, 14, The Fold is a page turner, with fun characters (especially Mike Erikson, who is a wonderful take on eidetic memory), tight pacing, intriguing sci fi concepts, and a largely absurd final reveal. Actually, it’s more or less the same reveal as in 14 (it’s the same universe, after all), so there isn’t nearly as much surprise in this one.
Overall, it’s a fun read when you’re looking for some sci fi escapism.
