The good
- Great world building
- Several interesting characters
- Good pacing
- Good action
- Somewhat interesting mystery
The not so good
- A few nonsensical uses of magic (the “Leeches”) purely to advance the plot in convenient ways.
- The book is structured so all the heroes fail non-stop for the first 90% of the book and then become gloriously successful the last 10%.
Overall
An entertaining fantasy novel. I don’t see much depth to it, but it’s fun enough that I’m curious enough to read the next one.
