'Elantris' by Brandon Sanderson
'Elantris' by Brandon Sanderson

It’s a Brandon Sanderson book, so you’re going to get great writing, imaginative world building, strong characters, and intense action scenes. But this is not my favorite of his books. The plot seems poorly organized and the pacing is uneven: in fact, the first 95% of the book focuses on largely uninteresting religion and politics, and all the really exciting stuff—including some great battle scenes, a badass villain, the chance to see the characters grow and change—all of that is crammed into the very last 5% of the book. It’s a wonderful 5%, but it’s too little, too late. A fun world, but just not one that is used to its fullest extent.
