A bit too far on the “young” side of the “young adult” spectrum. I read Brandon Mull’s Beyonder’s series solely because of his deeply- imaginative world-building, and while the world of the Five Kingdoms is also creative, it doesn’t grab me as much. And since the characters are flat and not particularly believable (especially as they are 6th graders in this series!) and the plot feels fairly simplistic/safe/predictable (The Beyonders had similar problems), I don’t think it’s quite enough to entice me to invest the time to read the rest of this 5-book series.
