'Zone One' by Colson Whitehead

An interesting take on the zombie genre, where the zombie apocalypse has already happened, society is in ruins, and people are just now starting to recover and trying to take back civilization. The book focuses on a single character as he joins a group “sweeping” out the last zombies from Manhattan, with occasional flashbacks to how he survived over the last few years.

It’s an oddly “quiet” story, as far as zombie books go, but it does offer some interesting insights into society amidst chaos. I think I still prefer World War Z, but this was an entertaining read nonetheless.
