DNF.
This is the story of the various people that inhabit a single house in New England across several centuries. I found it a frustrating read. At times, the prose was beautiful; at times, it was bland. At times, the story focuses on the fascinating historical events happening during this time period (settlers moving to the Americas, the Revolutionary War, slavery); at times, the story focuses on boring details such as apple groves and spinster sisters. at times, the characters grab you, and you want to see how they grow and develop; and at exactly these times, the story abandons those characters and moves on to a different set of characters in a different time period.
There was potential for greatness here, but it didn’t come together for me, and I found myself bored or frustrated too often, so I gave up about 25% of the way through.
