I found the first book in this series, The Spy Coast, to be a fun spy story with the interesting twist of all the spies being at retirement age (a bit like The Thursday Murder Club series). This book picks up where the previous one left off, but instead of spy action, we mostly get a run-of-the-mill murder mystery. You could swap in almost any mystery story detective—Miss Marple, Poirot, the characters from The Thursday Murder Club—and this story would play out more or less the same way. It’s still a competent, if somewhat predictable, story, and it was an enjoyable read, but it’s a shame that it lost the uniqueness of the previous book.
