'An Enemy of the People' by Henrik Ibsen
'An Enemy of the People' by Henrik Ibsen

An interesting play that explores how society sometimes suppresses the truth in favor of comfort, norms, riches, and much else. It follows Doctor Thomas Stockmann, who discovers that his town’s spas are contaminated and pose a serious risk to health, and when he tries to inform everyone of this truth, they find all sorts of ways to ignore and silence him.

Note that I listened to this as an audiobook, which was a recording of this play being performed in a theater. That means I only got a part of the play—just the audio, with none of the visuals—which was enough to get the point across (though I imagine the full thing would be even better). And once you understand the point, you begin to understand many of the problems we face as a society today, such as global warming, vaccines, gun control, and, more generally, the rise of fascism in the US.
