I’m a big fan of Blake Crouch’s books, but this one didn’t click for me. It starts off with a great hook—all the people in the town of Abandon suddenly vanished in 1893, and a group of modern-day explorers is trying to figure out why—but the payoff isn’t great. The initial exploration and adventure is great, but there’s a bit too much gratuitous death and suffering, and after the halfway point in the book, everything is revealed, and it doesn’t seem worth it to keep reading.
