The good
-
Interesting settings: Boston during WWI; Tulsa at the height of its wealth; and more generally, the US amidst the labor movement, communism, and racial tensions.
-
Fantastic characters. Lehane’s books always have characters that feel like real people.
-
Some memorable scenes and touching moments.
The not so good
- The book is a bit long and meandering. I think a shorter version would’ve been perfect. For example, I’m not sure how much the baseball and Babe Ruth stuff added to the story.
