'Damascus Station' by David McCloskey
'Damascus Station' by David McCloskey

The good

  • Feels like a realistic, gritty spy novel.

  • Plenty of action, suspense, intrigue.

  • An interesting look at the civil war in Syria. I don’t know the history well enough, but it felt like a realistic look at a brutal conflict.

  • Interesting characters that face real dilemmas. Instead of 2d tropes of good guys and bad guys, you get people that are really conflicted about the decisions they are making.

The not so good

  • I’m not sure why, but I found myself slightly lost at the beginning of the book. However, once it got going, things became clear.

  • The love story felt a bit cliche.
