The good

An interesting setting: Italy in the 90s, mafia, police, etc.

Montalbano is a reasonably interesting character (despite meeting just about all the detective clichés of being a lone man who drinks too much, never sleeps, etc.).

Decent writing, plotting, and pacing.
The not so good
- The plot felt overly convoluted, and you never really got a satisfying reveal.
