The good
-
An interesting look at Ireland, the Church, and Boston in the 50s.
-
Deep, conflicted characters.
-
Good writing.
-
The central mystery and plot keep you reading.
The not so good
-
Everyone and everything in this story is depressing. I guess that’s somewhat a trope with Irish literature/theater/etc, but I never really wanted to pick the book up, as I knew it would only make me feel more and more down.
-
I was able to guess the ending pretty early on.
