The good
-
A super quick, fast-paced, entertaining read. Mostly. (more on that below).
-
A reasonably interesting murder mystery that pulls you in and keeps you turning pages.
-
A hyper-competent protagonist who both can make Sherlock Holmes like deductions and has eidetic memory, so he can use the “DVR” in his head to play back any event with perfect clarity & precision. It can be a bit too much at times, but for the most part, it’s entertaining.
The not so good
-
While most of the book was fast, smooth reading, reminiscent of a Lee Child book, a few parts—mostly the intros to a chapter here and there—were clunky and confusing. It felt super incongruous. Perhaps some editor/publishing meddling?
-
As with Lee Child books, the conclusion with this book was a bit disappointing. It does answer all the big questions, and mostly holds together, but the mystery ends up being super convoluted and the solution feels a bit implausible.
