'Slow Horses' by Mick Herron
'Slow Horses' by Mick Herron

The good

  • A fun world of MI5, terrorism, and intrigue. The focus on Slough House, where they send the “washed up” spies with failing careers, feels like a fresh new angle in this genre.

  • Unique, fully-thought out characters. Jackson Lamb is especially fun.

  • Some genuinely funny moments and dialog.

  • Some decent twists and turns.

The not so good

  • The opening and closing chapters are probably the weakest in the book. They use a different writing style than the rest of the book, and I found this style confusing and off putting.
