Probably the best Andy Weir book so far!
The good
-
It’s well-written and well-paced, using a clever technique to set up a big mystery and reveal it bit by bit, making the book very hard to put down.
-
There is plenty to nerd out about here, including a number of interesting science / physics ideas that feel well researched and realistic.
-
The interaction between the main characters is highly entertaining. I genuinely laughed in a few places.
-
The overall story is uplifting and satisfying.
The not so good
- The part of the book that feels the most unrealistic is not all the really-out-there physics and science, but how all of humanity quickly and efficiently unites to fight a larger threat. Having seen how ununited humanity was in its reaction to the global COVID pandemic, I’m worried that if a bigger threat comes along, we’ll all be screwed.
