The good
-
Unique protagonist: a sociopath who can imitate anyone. The other characters are interesting too: Dickie, Marge, etc.
-
Somehow, even though you know everything Ripley is doing is wrong, you still find yourself rooting for him to get away with it. And every time he does, you feel awful about it.
-
Several interesting allegories: e.g., how some people, such as homosexuals, have to hide and pretend to be someone else; how high society is completely fake, and everyone is just pretending.
The not so good
- Every character in this story seems terrible in some way. You feel gross reading about all of them.
