'Relic' by Douglas Preston
'Relic' by Douglas Preston

The good

  • Interesting idea for a mysterious creature that evolves in an isolated part of the world.

  • A couple of moderately interesting characters, especially the main character, Pendergast.

  • A few moderately entertaining action scenes.

The not so good

  • Despite the attempt at putting a scientific spin on the creature, it still largely comes off as a magical monster.

  • We only get to see the main character, Pendergast, for a tiny portion of the book. Feels like a wasted opportunity.
