'Galactic Outlaws' by Jason Anspach and Nick Cole
'Galactic Outlaws' by Jason Anspach and Nick Cole

The good

  • More sci fi / military action, as in the first book.

  • Far more focus on a smaller number of well-defined characters (especially Tyrus Rechs, Aeson Keel, and Ravi) and a bigger plot / underlying mystery. As a result, this story is far more sticky than the first book.

  • Clearly inspired by Star Wars, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s a fun universe full of storm trooper like soldiers, bounty hunters, space ships, blasters, battle droids, and so on.

The not so good

  • Other than being set in the same universe, this has almost nothing to do with the first book. Yes, a character or two from the first one is mentioned, but the story is totally unrelated, the pacing / mood feels different, etc. I was expecting more of the squad based military tactics from the first book, so I was really confused when this story kicked off with a focus on a small girl and bounty hunters.
