The good
- Great writing, as is always the case with Ishiguro.
- Dark, dystopian, frighteningly real premise that keeps you thinking for a long time.
- Wonderful exploration of memory, childhood, humanity, the value of life, and how people treat each other. Ishiguro has a gift for the things that are felt, but often unsaid.
The not so good
- Very slow moving book. It takes a long time to get going and a long time to wrap up.
- The “big reveal” is easy to guess. Perhaps it’s supposed to be?
Overall
Not a perfect book—it doesn’t quite hit the high notes of “The Remains of the Day”—but still well worth a read.
