A somewhat forgettable mystery story. It’s reasonably well written, touches on some dark themes, and the big reveal is hard to guess, but somehow, the story feels a little dull. The characters aren’t particularly interesting; the pacing is a bit slow; the setting is bland and depressing; the way the mystery is unraveled isn’t particularly exciting. So while it’s a competent narrative, it has no spark—no unique feature that makes it stand out in your mind. I just finished the book today, and already it’s starting to fade from my memory.
