Review: Mystic River by Dennis Lehane

Although I loved Lehane’s Shutter Island, I found this book much less compelling. The writing is still great, but the mystery is much more predictable (I guessed the ending roughly half way through), the characters aren’t nearly as interesting, and the story never really grabbed me. Whereas I could barely put Shutter Island down, I constantly kept forgetting that I was reading Mystic River, and it always took me a while to re-engage with the story.
