A wonderful exploration of the role of intelligence in society and whether ignorance really is bliss. It’s easy to guess the basic plot arc from get-go, and some of the characters are a bit flat (e.g. there are two main female characters in the book who seem to exist largely as sex interests and not real people), but the book is well written, and the story can be quite moving, occasionally funny, and frequently tragic. It’ll almost certainly stick with you long after you finish reading.
My favorite quote from the book:
“… [the] fear of being revealed as a man walking on stilts among giants…”
What a wonderful way to capture how it feels to be an adult, a professional, and all other aspects of “impostor syndrome” that just about everyone experiences at various points in their life.
