The good
- Along with books like 1984 and Brave New World, Ayn Rand’s Anthem does a great job of describing a dark future and the beliefs and ideas that lead to it.
- The story’s premise (which I won’t spoil here) creates a fun backdrop for Rand’s typical themes of individuality and objectivism.
- It’s a very quick and fun read and is probably the lightest and easiest of Rand’s novels to get into.
The not so good
- I found this to be the least moving of Rand’s novels, possibly because the central concepts are presented so transparently, quickly and obviously.
- The novel also includes a lot of deliberate mis-use of the English language which is definitely important to the story, but can be somewhat annoying to listen to.
